Responsibilities

This position is for Pactiv Evergreen Inc.                                                                                                             

 

The VP of Environmental Health Safety and Security (EHSS) is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, oversight, leadership of company environmental, safety/health, risk management and security programs for 14,000+ employees and over 90 locations. In addition, assisting with employee and cultural development programs.

 

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and serves a member of the Operations Excellence Team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Global EHSS team by providing intent based leadership principles focus on both team and individual growth. Mentoring younger leaders to ensure pathway for advancement and career development.
  • Ability to communicate and establish strong working relationships with all levels of management (front line leaders to senior executive management). With the ability to work well on a national and global level.
  • Will represent Pactiv Evergreen on national and global teams focused on enhancing EHSS performance and ensuring compliance and alignment with the Global EHS Commitment.
  • Executive level administration and maintenance of EHSS programs; ensuring new developments in technology are available and continually evaluated.
  • Ensure proper incident analysis and learning processes are in place and that they are effective toward the achievement of a ZERO Harm learning culture (risk assessment and mitigation).
  • Ensure effective and efficient processes are in place for the organization and maintenance of both passive and active support files/records for all incidents/injuries, including general liability, auto liability, workmen’s compensation, and all other applicable claims.
  • Executive level leadership and administration of proper risk management processes, including negotiation/settlement of claims within proscribed limits of liability and directing other claims and lawsuits as appropriate.
  • Act as Liaison with all affiliated agencies, including: Insurance companies (WC, GL, AL), MSHA, OSHA, EPA & Labor Commissions.
  • Support and drive the EHSS initiatives, providing direction and support throughout the enterprise.
  • Oversee the EHSS audit process; collaborate with regional safety professionals and business unit leaders for selection/installment of safety devices/practices.
  • Coach and guide business leaders in conducting their own training programs. Collecting & making available EHSS material to business leaders for training needs.
  • Steward/Implement Safety Leadership and Human Performance philosophies, education, & growth strategies.
  • Provide direction/technical support to ensure employees health is protected and the Company is minimizing potential employee exposures through established industrial hygiene practices. Including but not limited to: Respiratory Protection Program, and Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Oversight of Care Management processes; ensuring injured employees are provided with the best available treatment to ensure injury resolution and prevention.
  • Implement strategic plans to ensure continued success in meeting company business objectives within Safety/Health, Safety Leadership, Human Performance, Risk Management, Environmental sustainability and Leadership education.
  • Monitor company safety results and trends, compile reports and share trends and corrective direction.
  • Develop creative communication methods to ensure the distribution and institutionalization of best practices through tools such as: Microsoft Office Suite, Business Intelligence (Tableau) or other more innovative ways.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

 

  • 15 yrs. Professional/Leadership EHS experience (Manufacturing experience a plus).
  • Significant experience in Leadership, Operations, Safety, Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Engineering. 
  • Experience in leading both direct and indirect multi-functional teams. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree - preferred) in a related field.
  • 30-50 % travel is expected.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work product, both that which is produced by the individual and that of the team, often requiring the adherence to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communicator who can communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing and can clearly convey information in an emergency situation.
  • Strong relationship building, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to interact patiently, respectfully, and with cultural sensitivity, at all levels of an organization on sensitive security issues.
  • Critical thinker with strong analytical skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to balance a “roll up your sleeves” approach to day-to-day work with serving as a strategic partner to the DGS in furthering the organization's security goals.
  • Strong personal character, an individual who can maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and exhibits unquestionable integrity, honesty, and forthrightness.
  • Client-service focus and ability to respond promptly to security inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies.
  • Strong work ethic and desire for personal and professional development.
  • Strong organizational skills to include: Tracking, coordination across multiple programs, effective reporting of status and results to executive level management.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of management systems (ISO 14001 and 45001 experience preferred).
