The Pactiv Evergreen Raleigh Carton Converting Facility is located in Raleigh, North Carolina, which is also home to North Carolina State University and the state's capitol. Opened in 1953 and employing 120 team members. The facility prints and die cuts refrigerated gable top cartons for a variety of global brands found in retail groceries throughout the US. It also extrudes cupstock and foil board and has received the State of North Carolina Excellence Award for the last 20 years. The facility has also exceeded 7 years without a lost time injury.

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Manager is a member of the Facility Leadership Team and has accountability for engineering and maintenance activities for a Multi-Million Dollar Union-free Paper Converting Facility. This position will part of a team that in the process of a $60M facility upgrade that will result in installation of state-of-the-art equipment, doubling the workforce, and positioning the facility as a flag ship for our Business Unit. This position is responsible for organizing the maintenance and engineering processes in a manner that will have a direct impact on safety, profitability, efficiency, cost management, quality, customer satisfaction, organizational design, work system improvement and workplace culture development. Key activities for this position include leading and coordinating the engineering and maintenance team, maintenance of production equipment, the building, and facility grounds in a way that will result in the facility reaching operational excellence goals. This position will focus on developing and leading a “best in class” maintenance organization to effectively utilize planning, purchasing, and skilled labor to improve equipment reliability, while maintaining a preventive maintenance program for all production machinery that will enhance production and decrease repair and maintenance costs. Key performance measures will include safety, customer satisfaction measures to include % on-time delivery, waste, product turns, inventory accuracy (qty and age), people development, and effective cost control.

 

Specific Job Activities:

  • Continue to transition the Maintenance Department along the path of being reactive to a reliable/predictable state by developing and implementing maintenance systems to improve equipment reliability.
  • Contributing member of Facility Leadership Team responsible for setting and supporting facility and business priorities.
  • Lead highly skilled and experienced team of maintenance professionals to include mechanical and electrical hourly leads, maintenance planner, storeroom clerk, and facility mechanical engineer.
  • Lead implementation of facility Pactiv Evergreen Performance (PEPS) Asset Care initiative
  • Develop systems to optimize levels of spare parts, critical spares parts, and inventory accuracy.
  • Develop and manage a skills-based certification process to continually increase the knowledge and skills of the maintenance staff. Design strategy to include certification and pay rates to attract, retain, and develop improved skill sets.
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Manage the use of the CMMS system for continually tracking work order progress, equipment repair history, preventative maintenance routes, and spare parts inventory. Develop linkage between all CMMS modules to effectively utilize maintenance people and equipment assets.
  • Implement Basic Care routes for production personnel on all operating equipment.
  • Develop strategy to identify required equipment upgrades, and effectively manage the installation of projects.
  • Coordinate all location utilities with the designated supplier (natural gas, propane, water, electricity, sewage waste disposal).
  • Prepare capital spending requests and budgeting for capital expenditures.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize work responsibilities, work as a member of leadership team, and utilize a participative management approach to achieve business objectives to include facility Union-free objectives.
  • Develop and implement standards and procedures for the technical work performed.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, or Nuclear Engineering preferred.

    3+ years’ experience in maintenance/production management

    Experience working within a small to medium sized manufacturing facility a plus.
